What is tahara (purification)? And what is najasa (impurity)?
Linguistically, purification is cleanliness and protection from all that is dirty and ugly. Jurisprudentially, it is removing hadath and khabath.
Hadath includes the impurities that prevent us from performing the acts of worship (like performing prayers and fasting) such as passing wind or janaba. This is called najasa hukmeyya (effective impurity).
Khabath is concrete impurity of the body or clothes. This is called najasa haqeqeyya (actual impurity).

إيه هى الطهارة وإيه هى النجاسة؟
الطهارة فى اللغة هى النظافة والصيانة من كل مستقذر وقبيح.
الطهارة فى الفقه هى رفع الحدث وإزالة الخبث.
الحدث: هو الأشياء التى تمنع من أداء العبادات زى الصلاة والصوم كخروج الريح أو الجنابة. وهذه تسمى نجاسة حكمية.
الخبث: هى النجاسة المحسوسة تلحق بالبدن أو الثوب من أشياء غير طاهرة. وهذه تسمى نجاسة حقيقية.
