How a woman purifies herself by musk before “ghusl” from menstruation:
On the authority of Lady Aesha (RA) that a woman asked the Prophet of Allah (pbuh) how to wash herself after menstruation. He taught her how to take a bath and then told her, “Take a piece of cotton with musk and purify yourself.” She asked, “How should I purify myself with that?” He said, “Glorified be Allah, purify yourself with it.” Lady Aesha reported, “I dragged her to my side and said, “Apply this cotton with musk to the trace of blood.”
This tradition was compiled by Al-bukhary in the chapter on how a woman rubs her body with water when taking a bath after menstruation, how to take that bath, and apply a piece of cotton with musk to the trace of blood (Book of Menstruation).

Note: married women should trace blood to the inside of the vagina and the unmarried outside.

تطهير المرأة نفسها بالمسك قبل الغسل من الحيض
عن عائشة رضي الله عنها (أن إمرأة سألت النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) عن غسلها من المحيض، فأمرها كيف تغتسل. قال: خذي فرصة من مسك، فتطهري بها. قالت: كيف أتطهر بها؟ قال: سبحان الله! تطهري. فاجتذبتها إلي فقلت: تتبعي بها أثر الدم).
أخرجه البخاري في كتاب الحيض- باب دلك المرأة نفسها إذا تطهرت من المحيض وكيف تغتسل وتأخذ فرصة ممسكة فتتتبع أثر الدم.
